How Head Start Can Help Your Family

In addition to providing top quality preschool education for children, RCS Head Start helps parents provide a better life for their families as they move toward self-sufficiency. Since 1990, RCS Head Start has helped parents find employment, find better housing, achieve educational goals, establish child care during non-Head Start hours, improve money-management skills, and become greater advocates for their children.

The Process: Your Family Advocate will assist you in filling out a Family Needs Referral, and a Family Partnership Agreement. These documents help you identify your personal and family goals and will help you map out the steps to take in order to achieve them. Your Family Advocate will work with you one-on-one to track your progress as you move through each step.

Once you have identified your needs and goals, our staff will link you with the appropriate community resources for meeting your needs. RCS Head Start works closely with social service agencies such as local departments of social services, health departments, mental health agencies, employment agencies, the United Way, local child care resource and referral programs, local housing authorities, and community colleges. If we do not already have contacts with the agency that can help you, we will research community resources until we have found a way to help you meet your family's needs.

If you think you are eligible for RCS Head Start, please contact a Family Advocate at a Head Start site near you.
